DESCRIPTION

The first edition of this scarce work. Even rarer in the original binding.

A notable Georgian cookery and housekeeping reference work, particularly important as it is claimed to be the first cookery book to be arranged alphabetically.

The author, Richard Dolby, included many new recipes in this volume which had never yet appeared in print, or seldom had; these recipes are noted in the work with an asterisks, recipes including Mexican almond milk, marinated calfs ears, cheese soup, chicken loaf, and more.

This was a popular work, being reprinted and revised again by the author in 1832 and 1833.

Richard Dolby was a cook at the Thatched-House Tavern on St. Jamess Street, London, a famed tavern which also produced another cookery book writer, Michael Willis.

Two pages of adverts to the rear.
