Written by American novelist and travel-writer, Paul Theroux, who uses his experiences living and travelling to other countries as inspiration for his works.
The Mosquito Coast is told from the view of young teen Charlie Fox, with the story focused on his father, Allie Fox, an inventor who becomes more and more negative towards consumerism in America. The entire Fox family move to the Honduran jungle in South America, hoping for a return to innocence.
The novel won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and was the Yorkshire Post novel of the year.
