The scarce first edition of this work.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and seven plates, alongside numerous further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.
Evans provides an account of his 1869-1870 trip through Mexico, describing the landscape, people and local customs of Mexico so as to present a fascinating view of nineteenth-century Mexico through the eyes of an American.
With two pages of advertisements to the rear.
Evans worked as a journalist for many years, and served on the staff of the Governor of California during the Civil War.
CONDITION
In the publishers original cloth binding. Significant fading to cloth of back strip, and head of rear board. Bumping to spine head and tail. Losses of cloth at back strip head and tail, and tail of rear joint. Tail of front joint starting, with board tenderly held. Rear hinge strained, and somewhat tender. Internally, firmly bound. Significant handling marks to first few leaves, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright
